Eco Scams on Facebook

with 2 comments

earth4energy.com and homemadeenergy.org are the owners of the latest adverts on Facebook to piss me off; to argue if it is a scam or not is splinting hairs, what they claim to be able to teach you is grossly exaggerated and extraordinarily disingenuous nonsense, it is a con and a definite waste of money.

Magnetic laundry scams

with one comment

After finding out about EcoBalls, a friend pointed out to me that there were a number of similar magnetic  laundry scams. For example the Life Miracle Magnetic Laundry System, but there are many man others. And, of course, there is Ecozone’s Magno Ball, which in all fairness claims to soften the water thus reducing to need for detergents rather than replacing the detergent, but bullshit none the less.

Dryerballs – toxic and a scam

without comments

There seem to be a number of eco-products available for your tumble dryer which claim to do away with the need for fabric softeners, speed up drying times, reduce energy consumption… all complete nonsense if you ask me.

HH2 – another run-your-can-on-water scam

with 2 comments

I was driving through the north of LA the other day when a car came past us covered in stickers claiming it ran on hydrogen, very interesting I thought and jotted down the web address; www.hh2.us

When I got home I looked them up, I was so disappointed to see they are just another HHO run-your-car-on-water scam, www.hh2.us turns out to be  www.hydrolectricpower.com.  I have been blogging about this HHO crap for years.

Miricale Toilet Smellkiller – yet another scam from Ecozone

without comments

I don’t know about you, but while not the cleanest place in the world my toilet bowl is not very smelly either. Well Ecozone have done it again, they have a miracle-eco-product which will solve a problem which does not exist, they now make a “Toilet Smellkiller”, a disc of stainless steel which, they say, kills the smells in your toilet.

It lasts a lifetime, apparently, never needs replacing as it is made from “special high-grade stainless steel”, it contains no chemicals (other than the chemicals used to make stainless steel I presume; carbon, iron and chromium). It and somehow “neutralises odours in your toilet as soon as it comes into contact with air and water, leaving the air fresh and clean again”.

Ecozone say that “it has been tested to eliminate odours” but as always they never say who did the testing or when or where – we are just supposed to take their word for it!

Run your car on water? Nonsense! It is a Scam!

with 39 comments

Loads of websites offer to teach you the secret of how to run your engine on water, mostly for a fee. For example Water4Gas.com say, on there enormously long and infomercial-like web page, you can halve your mileage and boost your performance by running your car on water.

Sound like bullshit to you? Of course it is bullshit!

Hydrogen Fuel Cells:

Fuel cells are a totally different technology to what we are talking about here, real fuel cell does run on hydrogen but produces electricity which is used, in this case, in electric cars, the scamers selling HHO will talk about their product being a “fuel cell” but it is not!

The HHO theory:

The theory usually goes goes something like this (there are many variations on “how it works”, often even on the same web-page); electricity from your engine’s battery is used to separate the water into its components, oxygen and hydrogen, which are then introduced in to your engine via the engine’s air intake along with the fuel the engine it was running on in the first place – the result being that somehow you use less fuel and/or get better mileage.

Magnetic fuel saving scams

with 3 comments

Too good to be true
You instinctively know what something is too good to be true, don’t you? And things which seem that way almost always turn out to be just that, too good too be true. I am constantly coming across products for sale on the internet which are such obvious bullshit, and yet someone must be buying them.

MagnoFuel
Recently, while researching for my book on bio-fuels, I am coming across loads of magnetic miricles. These things simply attach around your engine’s fuel lines, attached with zip-ties, and enhance the fuel magnetically; reducing pollution, increasing performance, reducing consumption, increasing range.

Sound too good to be true? Well obviously! If these things worked they would be fitted as standard to all new cars, in fact it would be compulsory.

Eco Balls are no better than nothing, they are just another eco-scam.

without comments

I have been running a little, admittedly unscientific, experiment; I don’t use any laundry liquid, or other detergent, when washing my clothes  and I have not noticed if they come out of the wash any dirtier than if I did use detergent. They don’t come out of the machine smelling of detergent and fabric softener, but they don’t come out smelling dirty either, they just smell of nothing much and appear clean.

(Update: I have now been doing this for a couple of years.)

There are exceptions, heavily soiled clothes do not come up clean, but how much of ones washing is heavily soiled? And I can always use some detergent if I need to, the point it that about 90% of the time I don’t.

Ecotopia and their Facebook Forest

without comments

Ecotopia, not the fine people who cycle across Europe every year but the pedallers of “environmental and ethical shopping” (an oxymoron if ever i heard one), have created the “Facebook Forest”, a place on Facebook where, in return for our joining up and inviting our friends to join up, Ecotopia will plant one tree for every fifty of us who join up.

Ecotopia are one of a large number of companies selling eco-nonsense, blatant eco-cons and fraudulent eco-snakeoil products. While I am sure some of the products Ecotopia sell are great, they also sell EcoBalls, magnetic toilet descallers, magnetic fuel savers, Aqua Balls and Magno Balls; none of these products offer a any proof that they work, indeed i am quite certain that they don’t work, they are a cynical exercise in extracting money from well meaning people. More info on what I think of EcoBalls here and the magnetic products here.

Mummy, what happened to the ancient forests?

without comments

Kleercut.net

Well Dear, I used them to wipe my arse.

Sorry to be so crude, but this is the bottom line, Kimberly-Clark are still cutting down ancient forests to make toilet rolls!

It insane but true, rather than use sustainable sources of wood pulp or even recycled paper, Kimberly-Clark cut down forest which has been standing where it is since the beginning of time to make toilet tissue for us to wipe our bums on.

Please:
