Tickell Vs. Starbuck & Harper

without comments

Follow the instructions in this book and run a very serous risk of being poisoned, blinded, burned and even killed!

I loved Joshua Tickell’s book “From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank”, indeed back in about 2000 it it not an exaggeration to say that it did nothing short of change my life.

However as time has passed research has been done and methods perfected which make Joshua’s book extraordinarily dated. Even though Joshua has had several opportunities the rework the book it still contains, among other things, plans for a DIY biodiesel processor which expose the user a very serous risk of being poisoned, blinded, burned and even killed!

It is time From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank was either rewritten or removed from sale, it is dangerous!

Back in 2007 I and my friend Gavin set out to write an up to date book on running diesel engines on biofuels, biodiesel and vegetable oil.

The giant publishing house McGraw -Hill liked our pitch and bought our book. Run Your Diesel Vehicle on Biofuels was published in October 2008.

I am very proud of our book, it was an enormous undertaking and we both worked very hard to make it the best, most complete, most accurate, friendly and readable book on DIY biofuels, biodiesel and SWO on the market.

Buy this book, it is much better, much more accurate and much more up to date.

Nevertheless one year on our book is not selling half as well as Joshua’s one. Despite it being ten-years-old and ten-years-out-of-date, people still seem to prefer to buy Joshua’s book…. with something like ten-times as many people buying his book on Amazon.com… over ours.

If you are one of the folks who has bought a copy of my book then thank you! We would appreciate you taking the time to review it for us… preferably favourably, but not necessarily… even just a few lines is going to be very helpful.

Either send the review directly to us, or go on line and review it at www.amazon.co.uk or www.amazon.com (depending on whether you are a US or UK coustomer, they don’t seem able to integrate these things) or at one of the thousands of other places you could review a book on diesel engines and biofuels.

HHOTec bring their scam from Carolina to the UK

without comments

HHO Tek, an American pseudo-green company, actually a company selling several scams, have popped up in  UK / Europe in a town called Mountain Ash which is about 10 miles north of Cardiff in South Wales.

HHO Tec’s website has improved massively since I last saw it, and so has the sophistication and language used, but it is all risible nonsense, all bullshit dressed up as science, all a complete scam, con men after your money while pretending to be trying to save you cash and the environment at the same time.

WaterMotive Ltd, Water4GasUK, Tranztec UK - more Hydrocharger websites

with 2 comments

Samantha and Neil Prendergast of Hydrocharger are also responsible for WaterMotive Ltd and Water4GasUK and Tranztec UK, three more UK based HHO scams. Neil and Sam Prendergast were also the founders of “Water Fuel Expert“, an old USA based HHO scam. I wonder if there are any more I have missed? Read the rest of this entry »

“Don’t Buy Solar Panels, Make Your Own!” Bullshit!

with 5 comments

Another scam on Facebook, “Don’t Buy Solar Panels - Make Your Own!” at http://www.mysolarplans.com is just another name for www.GreenDIYEnergy.com which is, at worst, simply a scam, and at the least it is VERY misleading; you can’t make your own solar electric PV panels from components you find at the hardware store… not without smashing up a set of garden lights or something anyway, and if you did that you would not end up with a decent size, efficient, usable system, let alone anything comparable to a system at “$27,000 average  cost”. DIY Biofuels book finaly on sale!

without comments

“the long awaited replacement Tickel’s long outdated book”

At last, after more than a year in writing, my book (co-authored with Gavin Harper) has been released!

Published by McGraw Hill, it is a DIY manual on all aspects of running your diesel engine on biofuels. It covers everything from converting vegetable oil into biodiesel, through collecting waste vegetable oil (grease) from restaurants, to converting your engine to run directly on unconverted-oil… and many other projects too. The book tries hard to remain apolitical and un-evangelical while discussing the various options and even has a chapter on the ethics of biofuels.

Top ten ways to save money when driving

without comments

I have run onto so many people recently, desperate to cut down on their vehicle costs, willing to shell out their hard eared money on cons like the Magnofuel and the run-your-car-on-water scam, willing to believe in magic rather than face up to the inevitable, that sooner or later they are just going to have to give up their addiction.

Anyway, I thought I’d have a go at writing my top ten ways to save money on your car!

Veg Oil Converted VW Transporter T4 Camper Van (sold)

without comments

Sorry, but the van sold.

However, its conversion is featured in my book —————————>>>>>>

I posted this van for sale on my web site as a favour to my brother, it took quite a while to sell but it has a new owner now. I’m leaving this page up for information only, this page gets a lot of Google hits from both people looking for a van to buy and from people looking for information about converted vans.

I’d also be silly to not take this opportunity to point out that if you are looking for information on how to convert your T4, or any other diesel engine, to run on vegetable oil, SVO / WVO / PPO or whatever you want to call it, or on how to make biodiesel, is available in my book, link on top right of this page, HERE —>

Collecting waste oil (legaly)

with 2 comments

I have been offered waste oil for free from a local pub but they need from me a Duty Of Care note in order for them to be happy to let me take it away.

I want to start producing my own WVO using my WVO Processor.

I have contacted the Environment Agency by both email and telephone in order to find out how to do this, but so far have had no response (PS - note second comment below). I know there are exemptions to the requirement for a waste carriers and waste disposal licenses for small bio-fuels producers, homebrew garden-shed-biodiesel makers, but the EA don’t seem able to tell me about them.

PS - Download Waste Transfer Note mentioned in second comment below.

Change in the law re bio-diesel

without comments

It seems the law regarding bio-fuels is about to change, as I read it (it does not make easy reading - download the PDF here) I don’t have to pay the duty on the fuel any more!

More specifically, in any rolling 12 month period, so long as I don’t produce more than (or think I may produce more than) 2,500 liters of fuel then:

  • I don’t have to pay duty on it,
  • I do not have to be registered with HMCE,
  • I don’t have to submit monthly returns,

…but:

  • I still have to keep a full record of my vehicles fuel use
(including its regular diesel use, millage and so on, and have to keep these records for six years).

Sounds like excellent news to me!
Even in my big van, at 10 miles to the liter my first 25,000 miles will be duty free!

Why not get your vehicle converted, build yourself a waste veg oil processor and set up a collection regime with your local chip shop/pub/take away and fuel could be (very near enough) free!

I have converted several vehicles to run on vegetable oil already. It costs £800/£1,000; all in with a good quality kit and properly installed. Contact me for more information.
