Step-by-step guide for removal and cleaning of EGR valve on 1.3 CDTi engine – [draft]
I have a Vauxhall Combo van 1.3 CDTi with fault code P0400, “exhaust gas recirculation flow malfunction”. This appears to be a common problem when these engines get older.
The engine can also can, but not always, go into “limp mode” (where the engine still runs fine but with significantly reduced power) when I accelerate hard. This can be cleared by switching off the engine and restarting.
Since I am getting no other fault codes I suspect that these problems are related.
The EGR valve needs to be cleaned or replaced.
This tutorial is based on these two tutorials:
Tutorial One and Tutorial Two (in French).
Tools needed…
- T-30 (??) torx driver.
- 13mm socket and/or spanner.
- Ratchet to fit.
- A couple of small flat-head screwdrivers.
Location of the EGR valve:
Remove this clip:
Unplug these:
And these too.
Holding the header-tank aside, unbolt the two 13mm bolts holding on the fuel filter.
