Enterprise Rent-A-Car are so shit!

with 5 comments

We booked a van with Enterprise Rent-A-Car about 4 months ago, today just 7 days before we are due to pick it up I get this from them! by email!

Mr. Starbuck,
This email is in regards to your booking for a cargo van on the 23rd of August.
Due to the burning man event, we have been overbooked 100+ CargoVans/PickUp Trucks.
Therefore, we are cancelling all reservations for the end of August. There will be no trucks or Vans available during this tmie period.
Thank you for your understanding. Please feel free to call our branch with any questions or concerns.

Kylie **
Enterprise Rent-A-Car

Can you believe it? I can’t. I sent them this response (by email):

Dear Kylie,

This is totally unacceptable! Have you only just noticed you are overbooked by “100+” vehicles? What kind of system are you running? This van has been booked with you for about four months now, I did not book it yesterday, you cannot just cancel my reservation with one week’s notice, especially by email!

Because of the Burning Man event I am now unable to book another van, I knew this and booked in good time and you took the reservation. How do you not know when Burning Man is, it is not as thought this is the first year it has happened .

I need the van on the date I reserved it for the duration I reserved it for and I will be in to pick it up next Saturday.

If you have any “questions or concerns” about this then I can be contacted on 415-823-8109.

Yours,

Mr. Jon Starbuck.

No response from them yet………….

  1. Wow, Jon. I can see how frustrating that must have been for you, but have you never worked in customer service? Do you have no understanding as to how large Enterprise Rent-a-car is? Do you really think this miscommunication and over-booking was really the sole fault of Ms. ** ? This email and response seems incredibly harsh, and to publish it on the internet seems a bit extreme. Hopefully its helping you sleep better at night. Id bet it didnt get you another car though…

  2. Point taken about her name so I took it out, they are an enormous company and it was not her fault personally… incidentally i doubt it is her real name anyway.
They never did call or email me back, I did go to collect my van but there were so many screaming would-be-van-renters there that morning (presumably ones that had not checked their email) that I laughed and went elsewhere.

  5. We booked a van from way out of town this tear, apparently this works well as they are not looking for burners when you are not in SF/Bay Area.

Last year we went to another company in SF that did not ask the question “is this for burning man”, when we went to collect there were photocopied notices all over the office saying there was a additional non refundable deposit of $1000 (an extra charge, then) for vehicles going to BRC, we keept quiet. When we returned the van, spotlessly clean, they opened up the air filter and showed us the dust and tried to charge us the $1000, we argued and argued that we had not been there and eventually they dropped it, this is not a recommended course of action.
